The Turkish Riviera has the longest beach season in Europe: usable swimming weather from late April to the end of October, with peak heat in July-August. Below, every month broken down for British travellers — air temperature, sea temperature, rainfall, crowd levels, price expectation and what to do. The single biggest insight: the last two weeks of September are the year's best value, with August-quality sea (27°C) at May-shoulder prices.
Spring blossom, wildflowers, hiking weather but sea still cool. Ideal for Lycian Way trekking, Antalya old town walks, Pamukkale day trips. Most coastal AI resorts open mid-April.
Sweet-spot start: warm enough to swim by mid-May, AI hotels fully open, prices 30-40% below August peak. Best for couples, second-week half-term families, golfers.
Long sunny days (15+ hours), sea warming to 26C by month-end. Half-term first week busy. Late June is the last quieter week before school summer rush.
UK school summer holidays start mid-month. Resorts at 90-100% occupancy, prices peak. Hot enough at midday to require AC + pool. Best for families committed to dates.
Hottest, busiest, most expensive month. Resorts at 100% occupancy, AYT/DLM security queues 1h+, hotel rates 60-80% above shoulder. Book by January if dates fixed.
First two weeks remain school-holiday-priced. Last two weeks (after UK schools resume) are the year's best value: 27C sea, 30C air, 30-40% off August peak. Ideal for couples and grandparents.
Genuine bargain shoulder month. Sea still 24C, air 25-27C in afternoons, golf weather perfect, half-term last week busy. AI resorts close late October.
Most coastal AI resorts closed. Antalya city, Belek golf hotels, Cesme spa hotels stay open. Excellent for spa breaks, cultural tours of Kaleici, Aspendos, Termessos.
Couples wanting value: Late September, second half. Sea 27°C, prices 35% below August.
Families with school-age kids: Last week of July is the best UK-school-holiday week (still hot but Russians/Germans haven't peaked).
Honeymoons: Late May or first week of June. Lowest crowds, full hot weather.
Golfers: March, April, October, November. Cool morning play, 18-22°C, half the rates of summer.
Hen/stag groups: May, early June or late September. Marmaris/Bodrum nightlife open, prices 40% off peak.
Spa breaks: November-March. Cesme thermal hotels and Antalya city spas at lowest rates.
