Şanlıurfa
Prophet city of legends, fish pools and golden bazaars.
Şanlıurfa — “Glorious Urfa” — is one of the most atmospheric cities in Turkey for British travellers, kanka, and far less travelled than Istanbul or Cappadocia.
Tradition places it as the birthplace of the Prophet Abraham, and the Pool of Sacred Fish (Balıklıgöl) at the foot of Urfa Castle is mobbed by pilgrims at sunset. The covered bazaar (Kapalı Çarşı) is a maze of copper-smiths, kilim weavers and isot-pepper sellers that hasn’t changed in 400 years. Most UK visitors use Şanlıurfa as the base for Göbekli Tepe and Harran beehive houses, sleeping in a restored stone caravanserai such as Hayri Bey Konağı. Pegasus, AJet and Turkish Airlines route Stansted/Gatwick/Manchester via Istanbul to GAP (SFQ) in roughly 5h 30m. Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) bring 22–28°C days and warm pomegranate evenings.
The five experiences that make a Şanlıurfa trip unforgettable

Harran beehive houses
45-min drive south to ancient mud-brick beehive village near the Syrian border.
