Bitez
A shallow family bay 10 minutes from Bodrum town
Bitez is the most family-friendly bay on the Bodrum peninsula and the natural choice for British clients with toddlers and grandparents who want shallow water and short walks.
Ten minutes by car west of Bodrum old town, Bitez is a U-shaped bay backed by tangerine groves and pine, with water that shelves so gently a five-year-old can walk fifty metres before it reaches their waist. The seafront is a flat 1.5km wooden boardwalk lined with shaded cafes and small four-star hotels; behind it sit the original mandarin orchards still bearing fruit. Bitez is calmer than Gumbet (the noisy Bodrum nightlife strip) and less luxurious than Yalikavak — a working family resort where Turkish and British families have holidayed in equal numbers for thirty years.
The five experiences that make a Bitez trip unforgettable
The shallow family bay
Water depth of one metre extends fifty metres from shore; the safest swimming on the peninsula for toddlers, weak swimmers and grandparents.
Wooden seafront boardwalk
A 1.5km flat boardwalk runs around the bay with shaded cafes, ice-cream parlours and small bars; perfect for evening strolls with children or older relatives.
Tangerine groves and Bitez windmills
The original mandarin orchards still produce fruit in winter; behind them sit the restored 18th-century stone windmills with sunset views over the bay.
Easy day-trip to Bodrum old town
10 minutes by taxi or £1.50 on the dolmus minibus to Bodrum castle, the Underwater Archaeology Museum and the marina restaurants.
The right month makes the trip
Ideal: May, June, September and October
Bitez is sheltered from the Meltemi by the Bodrum peninsula and stays calm even when other bays are choppy. Daytime temperatures hold 25 to 30 Celsius from May to mid-October and the sea touches 27 in August. Shoulder months give perfect family weather without the school-holiday pricing.

Bitez: questions British travellers ask us
Is Bitez the best Bodrum bay for a UK family with young children?
+
Yes — easily. Bitez has the shallowest water on the peninsula, the flattest seafront boardwalk, and the highest concentration of family-focused four-star all-inclusive hotels. Most British families with under-tens choose Bitez over Bodrum town itself.
How does Bitez compare to Gumbet?
+
Bitez is the calm family bay; Gumbet (immediately east) is the busy young-adult nightlife strip with Bar Street and louder bars. They sit on opposite sides of a small headland but feel completely different. We never confuse the two when booking.
Can we get to Bodrum old town easily from Bitez?
+
Yes — the dolmus minibus runs every 5 to 10 minutes along the coast road, costs £1.50 and stops outside every hotel. Taxis are £8 to £12. Many British families spend their week on the Bitez beach and pop into Bodrum two or three evenings for the marina restaurants and castle.
Which Bitez hotels do you recommend?
+
For four-star half-board sea-view we book the Yasmin Bodrum Resort, Royal Asarlik Beach Hotel, Hotel Costa Bitezhan and Yelken Mandalinci. All have shaded family pools, kids clubs in English from age 4 and direct beach access on the Bitez boardwalk.
Is Bitez safe for British holidaymakers in 2026?
+
Yes. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises normal travel and Bitez has been a British family resort since the 1990s. The seafront is well lit, English is spoken everywhere, and the tourist police office sits at the village junction with the coast road.
